Sedation Dentistry Salem OR

Woman getting Dental Sedation by Dentist Assistant at Oak Park Dental in Salem, OR.Dental visits for regular cleanings and exams are a crucial element in protecting the health of your mouth. They may also be required if, despite your best efforts to care for your mouth at home, something happens that requires a trip to the dentist. Fear of the dentist, or anxiety over dental procedures, keeps many people, including children, from seeking the dental treatment they need. If you ignore dental issues, they only get worse and can lead to serious complications. At Oak Park Dental, we offer dental sedation, allowing you to get the dental treatment you need without fear or anxiety.

What is Dental Sedation?

Fear of going to the dentist, even for something as simple as a cleaning and exam, can be crippling for many patients. There are several things that can cause this fear:

•  Pain. Many patients have a fear of the pain that is typically associated with dental visits, or with more invasive dental procedures.

•  Past experiences that were unpleasant. When you have a bad experience somewhere, such as a restaurant or a store, you do not go back. The same is true with the dental office. If you had a bad experience in the exam chair in the past, you understandably would not want to go back.

•  You feel helpless, or out of control. Often, a fear of the dentist develops out of a feeling that you have no control over the situation. You cannot see what is happening. All you know is what we are telling you.

•  You are embarrassed. Your teeth may be discolored, or your brushing routine less than stellar. Perhaps you are starting to show signs of gum disease. Any of these situations can lead to embarrassment and fear that we may judge you when you come in for your appointment.

Dental sedation is an excellent solution for any of these situations. Sedation involves the use of medication to help you relax during your procedure, whether it is a simple cleaning or a surgical procedure such as Dental Implants. There are different levels of sedation, along with different types of sedation, all designed to meet your specific needs so that you can remain calm and comfortable throughout your particular procedure.
