Posted on 3/25/2020 by Barbara Ketchum
Can You Floss Too Often? While flossing gets rid of interdental plaque and prevents cavities between the teeth, you may wonder how much flossing is enough. Can you actually floss too frequently? The following information will give you further details about how to floss correctly and what times are the best times to floss your teeth.

How Much Flossing is Enough?

Actually, you really cannot floss too often, unless, of course, you do not know the proper way to floss. For instance, if you apply too much pressure or floss to aggressively, you can damage the gums and teeth. Use a gentle approach when either brushing or flossing your teeth. Being aggressive will not make your teeth cleaner. You may need to floss or brush more than once a day to clean out the debris or food that gets stuck between the teeth. Therefore, you need to be gentle when flossing or brushing your teeth.

What is the Best Flossing Technique?

Learning to floss correctly takes some practice. Break off a piece of dental floss about 18 inches in length. Wind this piece around the middle finger of one of your hands. Wind the remaining string around the middle finger of the other hand. This leaves a strand of floss to use between your hands. Grip the floss between the thumbs and index fingers of your hands before sliding the string between the teeth. Move the floss in an up-and-down direction until you reach the gumline. Once you reach the gumline, curve the floss and use a gentle motion to slip it under the gum and next to the tooth.

We can show you how to floss property to maintain a healthy and clean smile. Give us a call today to arrange a cleaning, exam, and consultation. Flossing only takes about two minutes of your time and leads to better dental health. Therefore, it is well worth knowing how to floss or clean your teeth this way.
