Dental veneers are increasing in popularity as a way to cover up a multitude of sins with regard to your smile. If you have chipped, cracked or broken teeth, veneers can cover those teeth with a beautiful, white, smooth smile. But how long should you expect veneers to last, and how can you make them last longer? We have some answers. What Are Veneers?Veneers are thin shells that can be cemented onto your teeth. Veneers can be made out of composite or porcelain. Veneers have been around for over 100 years, and many people turn to them to make their smiles whole. Many people suffer from broken, discolored, misshapen or poorly spaced teeth. However, veneers can repair all of that damage. How Long Do Veneers Last?Composite veneers usually last from 5 to 7 years. Porcelain veneers can last from 10 to 15 years. If you want your veneers to last as long as possible, there are several things that you can do to make sure they last as long as possible.First, you need to take care of those precious veneers. You need to be sure that you don't open cans or anything else with your veneers. Avoid crunching hard foods, such as nuts, with your front veneers, because even though they are tough, they are not as tough as teeth. You need to be sure that you are brushing and flossing twice a day every day. Make sure you are coming to see us twice a year so we can make sure your veneers are in great shape. Also, be sure that if you play sports, you wear a mouthguard to protect those veneers. If you clench or grind your teeth at night, be sure you wear a nightguard as well. If you follow those steps, you'll be able to keep your veneers for a good long time! |
