Reach Out to Us After Any Type of Auto Accident

Posted on 8/15/2019 by Barbara Ketchum
Reach Out to Us After Any Type of Auto AccidentTooth damage is common after a car accident, as most people clench their teeth at the time of the wreck. Mouth injuries can also occur if the face hits the dashboard or steering wheel, and other issues may result from a deployed air bag.

Even if you don't notice any dental problems right away, it is important to reach out to us after any type of auto accident.

Chips or Cracks

If you suffer trauma to the face during an auto accident, your teeth may be chipped or cracked. Treatment for this issue will depend on how healthy the surrounding nerve and tissues are, and the size of the crack will also make a difference. Large cracks may require a crown, and if the nerve is damaged, a root canal may be required.

Loose Teeth

If one or more of your teeth are loose, but are still in place in your mouth, you'll also need immediate treatment. The teeth may remain intact while shifting in the mouth or coming out of the socket. Splinting and root canal treatment are the most common options.

Tooth Loss

If your tooth is knocked out or lost as a result of a car accident, you'll need to visit our office within 30-60 minutes to save the tooth. Unfortunately, you'll have to find the tooth in order to have it implanted back into its correct place, and we realize that isn't always possible in the instance of a car accident. If your tooth cannot be saved, we offer restorative options like implants, bridges, and veneers in order to restore your smile.

A car accident is a stressful time, and when you care for your post-accident injuries, don't forget to think about your mouth. Be sure to reach out to our office after any type of auto accident for an evaluation.
