There are signs for everything and if you are paying attention, you might just catch them yourself. Brushing too much can actually be harmful to your dental health. Being able to brush throughout the day is a great thing, but doing so too much can actually cause more harm to the outside protective layers of your teeth. So, it is best to try and only brush the recommended number of times. Brushing is a Great ThingBrushing your teeth is recommended by dental professionals everywhere, including us. We recommend that you brush your teeth two to three times per day, two minutes each time to completely remove the buildup that finds its way to your teeth. We also recommend that you should always make sure to brush with care, floss and rinse with mouthwash, as well. Get enough fluoride while doing so, as well, since the fluoride is what is going to help you have healthier, stronger teeth. Brushing too hard or too much can remove the enamel from the outside of the teeth, making them weaker. This will leave more susceptible to damage to be done from the acidic things you eat or the hard things that you crunch down on. You want to make sure that you are brushing lightly, but with enough force to remove build up and plaque that has found its way to your teeth. Scrub it off, but do so in a less abrasive way. If you have further questions about the cleanliness of your teeth, give us a call. You can also call us to schedule your biannual cleaning and exam to make sure you are on the right track to having a healthier, brighter, better smile overall. We can provide you with more information regarding the cleanings that you need. |
